SDAV Hot Rods History

This Club has been involved in Speedway racing for over 40 years and there have been many changes along the way. Speedway has grown in popularity as it gets passed onto each generation of people involved.

Over the years, this club has hosted many drivers that have won multiple State and Australian championship titles and some are still racing in this class today.

Currently there is a driver that has been racing for nearly forty years and although racing on a low budget these days, Ray Welsh will rarely miss a race meeting, always there to encourage the young drivers and available to help the club. Having won many title races over the years, Ray is still out on the track competing and enjoying his speedway racing, even if he is not the dominate force of the past he still has the occasional podium finish.

The range of current drivers competing at the club have a wide spread of age and experience, some having raced in other forms of speedway in the past, then moving into Hotrods, some of the young are extremely keen to develop their driving skills. The combination of the different drivers makes for a good racing environment as the young bring a new level of competitive spirit and enthusiasm that helps drive the more experienced ones to try harder each race meeting.
